Date night can be planned well in advance (especially if you are parents or have a hectic work schedule) or it can be on the fly. As parents, we are the former kind of date nighters but for birthdays or special occasions, we do tend to plan. Either way: these are the places that are always our first options when we decide we want to have a date night in the South Peninsula.

Umami Sushi, Imhoff Farm, Kommetjie

A firm favourite of mine when I'm in the mood for some good sushi! Situated on Imhoff Farm, in a garden setting but also has a cozy inside section for colder nights / days. Staff are friendly and if you are not into sushi, they do have some hot Asian inspired meals.

Jakes on the Common, Noordhoek

Nestled at the foot of Chapman's Peak Drive in a purpose-built restaurant building, Jake's is stylishly decorated with comfortable, funky furnishings and plenty of detail. The menu moves between casual and elevated depending on the time of day. There's a subtle transition into a smart, social vibe in the evenings, and the bar and lounge do craft beers, fine wine, and cocktails well. It's the kind of place that works for a birthday dinner or a last-minute Tuesday night out equally. (Their Porn Star Martini's are EXCELLENT!)

Furny's Fine Wines

Furny's is a family-owned wine shop, wine bar, and restaurant situated in a quaint village in Noordhoek, and it is genuinely one of those places you discover and immediately wonder how you lived without it. The wine shop alone is worth the visit but the food holds its own too: platters, gourmet bites, and cheese and charcuterie that pair wonderfully with what ever you're drinking. Sunday afternoons there are a particular pleasure, with live music running from 4:30 to 6:30. On Fridays, there are complimentary wine tastings from 4:30 to 6:30pm which is a very good reason to leave work on time.

The Foodbarn, Noordhoek

Internationally renowned chef Franck Dangereux is widely recognised as one of the forerunners of the fine-dining scene in Cape Town. The effortless combination of exquisite food in a beautiful, laidback setting makes dining at The Foodbarn so memorable. The menu changes with the seasons which keeps things interesting.

Top Tip: at the back of the menu, they have a pairing menu. They list some wines and the paired tapas underneath. Choose your wine and accompanying tapas like that. AMAZING!

The Lighthouse Cafe, Simon's Town

The Lighthouse Café has a lovely French Provençal and coastal feel, with a menu that provides a variety of choices and freshly prepared dishes. It sits right on St George's Street in the heart of Simon's Town, and the shabby chic interior perfectly complements its seaside setting.

A quaint stop for a day time date and a romantic scene for dinner time. Not necessary to book when you go for lunch but I would drop them a call if you want to go in the evening.
